Made to order from the beginning

Superior Veneer & Plywood was founded in 2004 to meet the needs of the specialty wood veneer markets.  Utilizing premium domestic and exotic veneers, Superior Veneer produces sheet veneer and panels to each customer's specification.  

Superior Veneer's pairing of local craftsman, specialty machinery, quality veneers, backings, and focus on quality over quantity make us a favorite supplier.

Our selection of premium domestic and exotic veneers, along with our Artisan Thick 1/16" line of faces, backed sheets, and panels adds to our specialty nature.  

In 2025, Superior Veneer & Plywood purchased E.M. Cummings sketch face division adding a new dimension to our specialty niche.  Today, we offer diamonds, reverse diamonds, starbursts, sunburst, specialty geometric designs, and complex furniture tops and fronts cut and assembled with laser precision.

Equaply 2 ply

EquaPly 2 ply backing is ideal for applications requiring stability and greater strength than paperbacked veneers.  EquaPly bonds a rotary whole piece cross-wood back to the face veneer, forming a very stable two-ply wood on wood sheet.

EquaPly remains pliable and easy to work with, while adding far greater strength. The cross-wood back is similar in color to the face veneer, which eliminates possible tinting of the face. This similar color back also makes it difficult to visually separate the face and back when seen in profile.

EquaPly resists warping due to temperature and humidity changes that would make paperbacked veneer curl, shrink or expand resulting in checks and cracks in the veneer.  It is also an excellent choice for bonding with contact cement.  The added thickness provides a better moisture barrier that prevents finish bleed-thru that can result in glue reactivation and releasing.

Superback laminate

SuperBack Hi-Performance Laminate is a revolutionary replacement for high-pressure laminate or phenolic-backed veneer. SuperBack possesses most of the moisture resistance found in traditional laminate, but is far more flexible, making the sheet veneer much easier to handle and apply. Unlike regular laminate backing’s “B” flame spread rating, SuperBack has an “A” flame spread rating. In addition, there is no added formaldehyde, making it safe for workers and the environment.

SuperBack is dimensionally stable, reducing possible face expansion or contraction due to temperature and humidity changes. SuperBack can be used with all types of glue with excellent adhesion performance.

Artisan Thick 1/16"

Thin wood veneer is perfect for almost every job, but every now and then a thicker veneer is needed. Artisan Thick veneers are ideal for wire brushing, distressing, or texturing.  Superior Veneer’s Artisan Thick Veneers faces are made from 1/16”  thick material.  Just like our thin veneers, Artisan Thick veneers are available in a variety of species and layup options and are manufactured to your specification.

Thick veneer is available on EquaFlex paperback, SuperBack Laminate, PerfectMatch (1/16" on 1/16") wood on wood, or choice of substrates including MDF, Veneer Core, or Particle Board.

Panels

Superior Veneer &  Plywood offers a large variety of substrates for both standard veneer thickness and Artisan Thick 1/16".

Superior manufactures sizes and thickness to meet most panel needs.

PSA - pressure senstive adhesive

Superior Veneer & Plywood offers PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) on any backed veneer sheets.  Superior uses Avery-Dennison PSA designed for extreme grip and high temperature.  This backing is very aggressive and works on a wide variety of surfaces with an aggressive bond that will last.  

Superior PSA can be applied to any of our backings including 10 mil, 20 mil, or 30 mil paper, EquaPly 2ply, and SuperBack Laminate.

Smaller 2’ wide x length sheets can be produced in pairs if smaller sheets are desired.

Sketch - inlay - engraved faces

In 2025 Superior Veneer & Plywood purchased E.M. Cummings Veneer sketch face division.  We continue E.M. Cummings commitment to inlay face precision, beauty, and craftsmanship.  In addition, Superior Veneer added laser engraving to offer another avenue of variety to wood veneer faces.

Sketch and inlay faces are produced using high quality domestic and exotic veneers in either standard thickness or Artisan Thick 1/16" veneers.  Designs are only limited to your imagination. Whether it is an intricate table top, diamond, reverse diamond, starburst, corporate logo, or geometric layout Superior Veneer will make it a reality.  Each design is custom produced and backed with SuperBack laminate for a seamless, balanced product that is ready for layup.
